Tough passage in the Sermon on the Mount. Historically, it has been the source of a lot of misunderstanding and harm. Is Jesus telling a rape victim to not resist? A black teen who is being treated unjustly that they shouldn't do something? Or a spouse that he/she should go back and submit to an abusive spouse because of obedience to Jesus???? GOD HELP US! NO. It is very much like the previous command, don’t be angry, don’t belittle anyone with your words or actions, or even a nasty look. Sure, we agree, but how? That condemns us all.
