The Chiefs lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon in what amounted to a preseason game for Kansas City. I know. I wanted the Chiefs' backups to win, too. 15-1 would have been cool. But 14-2 ain't bad, either. The Chiefs rested their starters so guys could heal up and avoid injury. Unfortunately, Kansas City couldn't rest everyone. Promising rookie, Willie Gay, left with an injury and did not return. While he isn't a starter, Gay brings a tremendous amount of athletism to a decidedly not athletic Chiefs linebacking group. When the Chiefs square off against the upstart Miami Dolphins this Sunday should Kansas City be ready for surprises? The Chiefs have a big game this weekend. They will be playing a really interesting team in the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are currently 8-4 so on the surface, it appears the Chiefs are going to be playing a formidable foe. Look a little bit closer, however, and you will see Miami has benefitted from a soft schedule, including two games against the Jets. The other interesting thing about the Dolphins is that they have gotten to 8-4 by using two quarterbacks. While veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick started the season, Miami has turned the offense over to their future franchise QB Tua Tagovailoa. A few weeks ago, however, in a loss to the Broncos, the Dolphins temporarily benched Tagovailoa and brought in Fitzpatrick hoping to create a spark. It nearly worked but the Dolphins fell just short. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 22-16 in a game many fans found extremely frustrating. It is a mark of just how good the Chiefs have become that we fans get annoyed by only beating the Broncos by six points. That was a weird game. Truth be told, I never got too worried. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes and the other guys don't. I never believed Drew Lock could out-gun Patrick Mahomes. Still, there were some untimely penalties, nears misses and the Chiefs also scored a touchdown that nobody knew was actually a touchdown until it was too late. The Chiefs won anyway like they always seem to do. Why? Because the Chiefs are great. Kansas City has lost one game in the last calendar year! The team is 11-1, has clinched a playoff spot, and has all but clinched another AFC West title. So it is ok to be annoyed when the team doesn't play up to their own incredibly high standards. Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill put up ridiculous numbers as the Kansas City Chiefs took down Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That was awesome.  Sure, the game ended up only being decided by three points. The Chiefs defense looked suspect at times. There were too many penalties. The second half didn't go like we hoped it should have. Mecole Hardman dropped a touchdown.  We don't care. The game was still awesome. Patrick Mahomes cemented his lead for the MVP. Tyreek Hill had one of the greatest receiving games in NFL history. The Kansas City Chiefs beat those jokers the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football but it wasn't easy. And it wasn't easy because, well, mainly, the Chiefs couldn't stop a nosebleed. The good news is, the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes and when Patrick Mahomes is your QB, you are never out of the game. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Chiefs VP of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder, has tested positive for COVID-19. The Chiefs released a statement earlier today, saying that they would practice this morning and then close the facility for the rest of the day. Contact tracing had begun. Thursday afternoon, ESPN's Field Yates reported that Chris Jones has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
