50 - Fire from the Urethra
12/07/2019 Duração: 01h45minJoining Remfry on the show this week is The St. Pierre Snake Invasion musician Damien Sayell. As the frontman and songwriter behind one of our favourite releases of the year, TSPSI's Caprice Enchanté, we couldn't be happier to have Damien temporarily filling in for Steve whilst he takes a short break. New albums reviewed include Wear Your Wounds' Rust on the Gates of Heaven, Torche's Admission and Glitterer's Looking Through the Shades and Remfry reviewed live shows from Frontierer and Rammstein's explosive spunky Milton Keynes extravaganza. And of course we take the opportunity to talk to Damien about the making of Caprice Enchanté. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. RR08 The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
18/06/2019 Duração: 38minOn this week’s Rioteers Review, the boys debate the relative merits and imperfections of the second album from El Paso progressive rock, dub, ambient, Latin, jazz-mashers The Mars Volta, 2005’s incredible Frances The Mute. Steve and Remfry discuss how such a complex, sprawling opus came to be just 20 months after the release of The Mars Volta’s first full-length album De-Loused in the Commatorium and the Miles Davis-inspired methods with which guitarist Omar Rodriguez Lopez went to create such a rich, beguiling sonic tapestry. They discuss where it sits in The Mars Volta pantheon and the mixed critical response that the album received at the time of its release. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 46 - Steve vs. God
14/06/2019 Duração: 02h39minIt's an absolutely monumental week this week, partly cause there's a lot of brilliant new music out but mainly because Remfry's gallivanting off to that bloody Europe next week and alas, he won't be present to wax lyrical about it all for you. But we have another treat for you all in store next week...more details on the show. But nevermind that because on this episode are reviews of new albums by Baroness, Dinosaur Pile Up, The St Pierre Snake Invasion, Bokassa, Heart of a Coward and Jambinai. Cor blimey guv, that's a hell of a lot of great music to get through (and some not so great music depending on whose opinion you value more). There's also an extensive review of Portals Festival and a discussion around the Frank Turner / The Armed controversy. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. RR07 - Type O Negative - Dead Again
12/06/2019 Duração: 36minSteve and Remfry sit down to discuss the seventh and final album by NY gothic doom merchants Type O Negative. Whilst the album had a decent critical reception, Dead Again is rarely given the credit it's due, with most media attention focusing on the (admittedly brilliant) Bloody Kisses and October Rust. But Dead Again, whilst not perfect, contains some utterly definitive and fascinating insights into Type O Negative and more pertinently Pete Steele. Released three years before his untimely death, there is an irony surrounding the album in that it's the most morbid record by a band practically obsessed with death. Paradoxically, it's also Type O's lightest album, containing many of the bands fastest, punkier cuts. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 45 - Heroin for Christmas
07/06/2019 Duração: 02h18minThis week on Riot Act, Remfry watched some live music in the form of Alexisonfire at Ally Pally and The St. Pierre Snake Invasion at The Black Heart and Steve watched some "live" music at the Bring Me The Horizon day of All Points East festival who brought with them a veritable bunch of other bands who, for the most part, don't seem to understand the basic concept of live music. New albums come courtesy of Jane's Addiction / Porno For Pyros legend Perry Farrell, Pelican, Motanka and Pleaides and in possibly the oddest trade-off so far, Steve listens to BRITN3Y by BRITNEY and Remfry endures Morbid Angel's Illud Divinum Insanus. S13 - Alexisonfire's George Pettit and Wade MacNeil
05/06/2019 Duração: 30minRemfry sat down with George Pettit and Wade MacNeil from Canadian post-hardcore legends Alexisonfire just a few hours before their massive headlining show at London's Alexandra Palace. They discuss the band's reunion, their first new material since 2010's Dog's Blood EP (in the form of singles Familiar Drugs and Complicit) and what the future holds for the only band ever. 44 - #5iveForSlamDunk2020
31/05/2019 Duração: 02h40minSteve and Remfry both ventured out to their first UK festival of the year in the form of Slam Dunk. They bring you their review through a very heavily Riot Acted-tinted perspective (i.e. atypical). Speaking of festivals, they also discuss a couple of interesting additions to the Glastonbury line-up and Steve reports back from Wembley Arena where he saw grunge-metal legends Alice in Chains. Album reviews this week come courtesy of Her Name is Calla, Cave In, Royal Republic and Cursed Earth and Trade off comes courtesy of Hope Fading Nightly by Tellison and The Hardest Way To Make A Living by The Streets. 43 - No Mash to Heat Up Your Beans
24/05/2019 Duração: 02h26minIt's a bumper week this week what with obtuse Scottish arena rock botherers Biffy Clyro shocking us all by releasing a new album in the form of a soundtrack to feature film Balance, Not Symmetry. Steve and Remfry cast their critical eye upon it, as well as new albums by Rammstein, Morrissey, Destrage and Petrol Girls There's also sad new to impart from the Slipknot camp and Steve has an unsolicited theory as to the identity of their new member, plus trade-off goes from the sublime to the utterly turgid with The Hold Steady's Boys and Girls in America and Collapsed Lung's Cooler both being discussed. 42 - Bonjour Saboteur
17/05/2019 Duração: 02h23minBonjour is in an incredibly tetchy mood this week, doing everything she can in an attempt to sabotage the podcast and muscle her way in on the reviews. Maybe she's bitter about the fact that Steve's not been able to pay her all that much attention this week, as it's the first catch up show of 2019. And blimey Charlie there is a veritable feast of fantastic albums that the Riot Act crew have missed over the last 5 months. Steve and Remfry look back over 8 albums they missed by Sharon van Etten, Idiot Pilot, Latitudes, Teeth of the Sea, Cartograpghs, Herod, Lotus Eater and SeeYouSpaceCowboy On top of that, there are an additional two album reviews from opposite ends of the Riot Act spectrum both out this week courtesy of The National's 'I Am Easy To Find' and Full of Hell's 'Weeping Choir. There's also live reviews of Brutus, Employed to Serve, Loathe and Devil Sold His Soul. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. This podcast uses the following third-p

S11 - The Wonder Years with Dan 'Soupy' Campbell
14/05/2019 Duração: 38minRemfry sat down for a chat with Dan 'Soupy' Campbell from The Wonder Years to discuss their last album Sister Cities, an album that got to #12 on Remfry's Albums of the Year 2018. The record explores empathy in a tumultuous world and how we can find hope in difficult, politically charged times. They also discuss the reaction to the album a year on and if there's any truth to the rumours that Sister Cities might be the last record from The Wonder Years. 41 - I Can't Stick Up For Big Balls
10/05/2019 Duração: 02h20minThere are new songs by Tool (and, since recording, a release date for their new album of August 30th) but Steve and Remfry don't wanna listen to no shitty phone recording fool! All the same, they find reason to talk about it cause ya know ... Tool! They also review new albums by Employed to Serve, The Get Up Kids and We Never Learned to Live as well as having a discussion around the new Amon Amarth album and their proclamation that they would like to take the heavy metal baton once the Metallicas and Iron Maidens of the world croak ... but are they capable of doing so? All this plus possibly the most acerbic trade-off of them all as two titans of rock go head to head in the form of AC/DC ... and Reel Big Fish. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap goes up against We're Not Happy Til You're Not Happy, an album that lives up to its title by not making Stephen Hill happy. Warning: features fudge eating.
