  • XR - What does it mean to extend reality?

    24/05/2021 Duração: 53min

I try to practice my talk for tomorrow's Concentric design conference... But I struggle to keep myself within a short time frame. Idk how I'm going to do this... But I'm excited to try!!

  • The Future of Education

    20/05/2021 Duração: 31min

Education should be a lifelong institution for solving real world problems. Instead of schools as we have them now, we should have library-like facilities and intranets where people can 'check out' a course on any subject. Folks should be prompted and given the resources to not just solve random problems, but instead be directed to ask why.. to find the causes behind the symptoms.. to learn the context and work with the people suffering those problems. Then, they should be able to collaborate on a project with an interdisciplinary team with people of differing levels of experience. As they near the implementation of the project, they should test the product or service in real world scenarios. Once they implement the project, they should measure it's impact and iterate accordingly. Every project should therefore be an ongoing process done by multiple generations of people. And the whole thing is an interconnected system. Thus is the future of education: Lifelong learning, project based, real world, collaborati

  • What does it mean to extend reality?

    19/05/2021 Duração: 48min

XR is more than just VR and AR. We can also consider computers, cars, and every other technology as an extension of our reality in some way. Our ideas and language is also an extension of reality. Thus I talk about how and why we need to consciously consider what parts of reality we are extending and how we are doing so. Does that leave our world in a better or worse state? I also talk a little about the concept of good and evil, holistic design, and general updates about my life and my goals.

  • No longer silent - Talking about climate change, society, and other hard topics

    18/05/2021 Duração: 01h24min

Inspired by one of my Discord friends, I share my worries, thoughts, and ideas about climate change and how not talking about this topic just makes the situation worse. Environmentalism, social justice, the global north vs south, Israel-Palestine, acceleration of ideas and so much more...

  • Updates and thoughts on revolution, history, and love

    17/05/2021 Duração: 21min

What is the effectiveness and role of revolutions in the long term? What is the role of violence in revolution? I had a long and difficult conversation about that on Friday. There is much I have to learn before I can delve into it here indepth... I also talk a bit about what my family found about our Native American lineage, and then talk about my experience with being in a long term relationship.

  • The future of the internet needs to be interoperable and contextual

    13/05/2021 Duração: 39min

The internet is transitioning more and more into an interconnected web of metaverses, but why do we not have the ability to move our accounts, posts, and creations from one platform to another? This is one of the many problems we hope to solve in the Open Metaverse Interoperability group. I talk about my experience attending OMI meetings and then go into my first full experience with the Oculus Quest. I end with a description of my business plan and ask for help! Please HMU if you are or know of someone that can be my CTO!

  • Incompetence or Cowardice?

    12/05/2021 Duração: 01h05min

The world is full of incompetence. BBVA has an absolutely terrible banking experience, especially with their mobile app. DCAU is great, but their cohesion is severely lacking (and HBO Max doesn't even try to help by putting them in a nice little playlist). Background Checks aren't actually effective at creating a safer workplace. And most egregiously to me right now, HTC Vive seems to be incapable of having the spine to stand up to Facebook even though they are by far the best company for the job. They could be the champion of the consumer and enterprise VR market alike, but their focus on enterprise doesn't live up to that potential for either. Instead, they seem focused on relegating themselves to a small segment of their true potential.

  • A case for banning Intellectual Property

    10/05/2021 Duração: 59min

After discussing what I did for Mother's Day and my experience watching DC animated movies, I finally delve into my early ideas about the issues with Intellectual Property and make a pre-research case for why we should ban it and how it could make an actual free marketplace!

  • How crowdfunding as a business model can scale 'significance'

    08/05/2021 Duração: 29min

Crowdfunding may be a great business model for me. It allows me to 1) make money without charging people who are already economically struggling and 2) give people a way to directly support another community in a scalable way. There are still many problems to figure out with this model,... but I hope it is a more promising model than a subscription-only model. Furthermore, I share some insights from SB Kaufman's article about Restoring America's Humanity in which talks about how 'learned helplessness' is actually the default state after prolonged adversity, and how a feeling of (actionable) hope has to be taught or relearned.

  • Specialization - The need for bias, experts, and friendships for a holistic society

    07/05/2021 Duração: 59min

In this audiojournal entry, I share my struggles with feeling lonely due to not finding enough people to talk about and work on all the things in interested in. I then go on to discuss ideas around the problem with democratizing design, vilifying bias, and why specialization and diversity is so important for humanity.

  • Why you can't ban politics at work

    05/05/2021 Duração: 42min

In this audiojournal entry, I update you all on my new contract at Futurus, applying for the Center for Civic Innovation in Atlanta, and participating in the OKR workshop for the Open Metaverse Interoperability community. I then get on my soapbox to talk about why banning 'politics' and similar things from work is not really possible. If anything, it actually standardizes the current political viewpoint of the organization and ostracizes people who come from very different backgrounds. I think we should instead be trying to figure out ways to have more meaningful discussions and instill psychological safety (ie how to have a more inclusive culture that encourages everyone to bring their 'whole self' and be the most productive/effective people they can be at work).

  • Personalize the World's Knowledge

    04/05/2021 Duração: 22min

I'm this audiojournal entry, I talk about where Google failed to make the world's knowledge more accessible and useful and how I hope to begin designing a better solution.

  • Still struggling, but still trying

    30/04/2021 Duração: 12min

In this audiojournal entry, I share what I've been struggling with over the last few days in terms of my motivation and self esteem. I also share some good news for my employment status.

  • Healthy Transcendence - How and why I want to build a self-actualization business

    27/04/2021 Duração: 01h01min

In this audiojournal entry, I share some updates on what I did over the weekend. I talk about what I learned from my mentors that talked about breaking down my idea into existing industries to learn how they do it. I then go on to talk a lot about company's vision and mission statement, going into detail about self-actualization, healthy transcendence, and why its important to have a solid foundation in good, humanistic psychology.  SB Kaufman's Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization shows how humans are not inherently evil, lazy, selfish, greedy or bad; he shares a ton of research that shows how and why people become these things due to unfulfilled, deficient needs and unhealthy transcendence.  This realization that people are inherently driven, helpful, explorative, and so on once their needs are met gives hope (ie actionable wisdom) for the cause of creating a better world by removing the barriers stopping people from meeting their needs and pursuing their growth.

  • Valheim as a Metaphor for Life + the Future of Design

    23/04/2021 Duração: 42min

In this audiojournal entry, I share my experience playing Valheim and talk about how it relates to the process of self actualization. I then go on to cover the future of the design profession after reading Debbie's article.

  • What is entropy? What it means to be entropy machines

    22/04/2021 Duração: 41min

In this audiojournal entry, I try to piece together and explain my understanding entropy, of how it is actually a good thing (or at least not always bad), and how we can better think about our role as entropic machines.  Problematic (but interesting) definition of entropy - https://fs.blog/2018/11/entropy/ Great description of entropy - https://qr.ae/pGNTd8

  • Learning about self-actualization and SB Kaufman's Transcend

    21/04/2021 Duração: 34min

Getting back to daily, purely audiojournal uploads! Today I am sharing some initial thoughts and ideas around SB Kaufman's book updating Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. I share my life experiences leading up to how I got my own understanding of this, and how I want to structure and organization around this idea of directly meeting people's basic and higher human needs. I then go on to share some perspectives and thought experiments about the nature of reality and scale of sentience.

  • Breaking out of the Local Maxima - What we can apply from Hunter Gatherer cultures

    14/04/2021 Duração: 01h23min

    - Matrilocal society was the first major successful family structure  - HGs had egalitarian society with biological-based specialization and roles      - Perhaps we can have a more equal society with skills-based roles  - HGs had no concept of scarcity, they didn't wander where they were going to get their food because they knew they could always find something      - Similarly, what sets apart 'developed' nations and middle class families from poorer ones is the fact that they can find food and water... you don't have to plan out how to get your subsistence  - HGs had highly involved child care in terms of education, play, character building, and self-sufficiency  - We value all of these today, but comparatively, we do not have as good structures  (Didn't get to talk about the following, maybe next time)      - With agriculture we traded abundance for future planning(?)      - Does scarcity drive innovati

  • Is Google Good? - Why we need to create societal balance sheets to measure the impact of big tech

    07/04/2021 Duração: 01h19min

I start this journal off talking about what we can learn and apply from hunter gatherer cultures: egalitarianism. I also ask questions about whether Google is net good for society. Though they have created massive value in the way of making knowledge more accessible, there is not much talk about the role they have played in the proliferation of 'alternative facts' and extremism; this is in addition to problems of data privacy, data collection, and data usage.  I eventually nerd out about water and the potential for *emergence* to be a better method of creating true artificial intelligence.

  • 200,000 Years of Egalitarianism - How to create a better environment for society based on evolution

    04/04/2021 Duração: 54min

In this journal entry, I share some thoughts on what we can learn from hunter-gatherer societies in order to build a more egalitarian society.  I start off with some updates on my life so far: from learning more about interaction design and information architecture, to learning Axure, to designing complex datatables and tools for emotional intelligence.  I also talk about how/why I have been taking my time with developing my business plan. Going into depth about the importance of getting down to the fundamental issues behind the problems in our society today.
