Big news! It’s our last episode as Fishnet Flix, so we’ll be taking a break for the month to gear up for our relaunch and new name. But before we go, we’re putting another late ‘90s teen thriller notch in our belts with Teaching Mrs. Tingle. “Sounds razor.” We’re continuing our theme of late ‘90s high school thrillers and diving into 1998’s Disturbing Behavior, which is about a group of teenage outcasts who uncover a mind control conspiracy at their high school. In this Robert Rodriguez-directed and Kevin Williamson-written film, Aliens begin taking over a small town high school, Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style! When a high school cheerleader becomes pregnant, she and her cheer sisters get inspired by Point Break and plan a bank heist. Drewcember concludes with our final episode of the year...and it's a doozy! Come with us on a journey of complete chaos as we discuss the 1986 made-for-TV movie Babes in Toyland, which starred a tween Drew Barrymore  and a young Keanu Reeves. It's set in Toyland, a magical fairytale realm where Marie believes all TikTok fashion aesthetics are birthed from. Drewcember continues with The Stand-In, Drew Barrymore’s most recent film from 2020. Our queen plays a washed-up movie star who hires her old stand-in to go to rehab in her place. And yes, Drew plays both roles, Eddie Murphy-style! This movie may have been a victim of the pandemic and not seen by many when it first came out, but it’s a must-see for any Drewbie. Especially since we rarely get to see her play these type of “unlikeable” characters! Break out the crab dip, baby! November may have just begun, but we’ve already got our minds on New Year’s Eve—specifically 1982, when a little ol’ movie called 200 Cigarettes took place. The movie came out in 1999 and featured numerous familiar faces, many who were just lil baby celebrities at the time (Kate Hudson, Christina Ricci, Ben Affleck, Courtney Love, Paul Rudd, and SO many more). We follow all of the characters during one fateful NYE night as they make their way across New York City to get to a party. The ‘fits are FAB and costumed by thee Susan Lyall who we talked about in our Empire Records and also did Molly’s Game, the Trial of the Chicago 7, Being the Ricardos, and more. To close out Vampire Month here on Fishnet Flix, we’ve got a new gothic romance film in the lineup, and one that will no doubt inspire some new fangbangers to come out of the woodwork. The Invitation (2022) is about Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel), a New Yorker who finds out she has long-lost family members so she travels to the English countryside to meet them.
