  • Episode 29 – Slender Man (Movie, 2018) Review

    31/10/2020 Duração: 57min

For our 29th episode, we're doing a Halloween special, but we decided to combine it with a terrible movie since we haven't done it in a while. Nobody asked for a Slender Man Movie in 2018, but we got one regardless, and it is one of the worst movies we've ever seen. Much like the effect Kangaroo Jack had on us, where we ended up questioning what actually made something comedic, this film made us question what actually builds tension, and how the writing could be so abysmal it passed quality checks. We didn't have any submissions this week, but if you're a creator and want to have your work reviewed, message us! • Episode 28 - Fantasia (Movie, 1940) Review

    25/10/2020 Duração: 01h03min

For our 28th episode, we watch and review the 1940 animation Fantasia, produced by Walt Disney. The movie features 7 segments, all featuring colourful animations based on a piece of popular classical music, with a conductor who addresses the audience introducing each one. With appearances from Mickey Mouse, dinosaurs, Greek mythological figures and more, the animation was groundbreaking for its time, especially given each frame was hand drawn. The plot follows Grey Trace, a mechanic in a futuristic cyberpunk world, who gets paralysed after a mugging which leaves his wife dead. 20/09/2020 Duração: 01h03min

In our 23rd episode, we watch and review the Netflix original The Two Popes, directed by Fernando Meirelles and based on the play of the same name by Anthony McCarten. The plot, based on a true story, follows Pope Benedict XVI (played by Anthony Hopkins) attempting to change the mind of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who wants to resign as an archbishop. • Episode 22 – I'm Thinking of Ending Things (Movie, 2020) Review + Oscars' Diversity Standards

    13/09/2020 Duração: 59min

For our 22nd episode, we watch and review the Netflix original I'm Thinking of Ending Things, written and directed by Charlie Kaufman and based on the book of the same name by Iain Reid. Starring Jesse Plemons and Jessie Buckley, the plot follows a young woman on a roadtrip with her boyfriend Jake to meet his parents, but nothing is as it seems and as the story progresses both the woman and the viewer begin to lose grip on what is actually real. Our discussion involves our interpretation and explanation of the surreal ending and compare it to the novel's, and how it uses a 4:3 aspect ratio and other techniques to create tension. We also touch on the Academy Awards' new representation and inclusion requirements for films to be considered for the Oscars - most headlines about this are clickbait, and the actual standards are very reasonable and a step in the right direction for the industry. • Episode 21 – Pet Shop Boys' It Couldn't Happen Here (Movie, 1987) Review + Thoughts on Tenet

    04/09/2020 Duração: 01h06min

For our 21st episode, we watch and review the 1988 surrealist musical It Couldn't Happen Here, with music by and starring the Pet Shop Boys. Directed by Jack Bond, the film is based on music from the band's first two albums Please and Actually, and instead of focusing on a coherent narrative structure it instead opts for a collection of surreal scenes and bizzare dialogue that doesn't make much sense. Band members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe play various versions of themselves in different scenarios, and the film guest stars Joss Ackland and Barbara Windsor. • Entertainment of Excellence Podcast - Trailer

    04/09/2020 Duração: 54s

Welcome to "Entertainment of Excellence", the podcast where we review: Film. TV. All of it. No fuss, no nonsense, exactly what it says on the tin. We focus on films and TV shows for our main segment, but also discuss anything ranging from music to art to poetry in our recommendations section. In our Submissions Spotlight section, fans can send us in their work to be reviewed live on air. We don't edit our episodes except to keep them clean, because we aim to have a more laid back atmosphere, just like chatting to your friends. We started this podcast for fun as a hobby. We are not sponsored or endorsed in any way (we’re not well enough known for that!), so the only bias we may have is our personal views. Our episodes (usually about an hour long) consist of us reviewing a film, outlining the plot, discussing strengths and weaknesses and rating it out of ten. We then provide recommendations, not necessarily limited to film or TV.  All of these are included in the main episode, which we stream live at 4PM

  • Episode 20 - Kangaroo Jack (Movie, 2003) Review

    28/08/2020 Duração: 57min

We're finally on our twentieth episode, and to commemorate this achievement we suffer through one of the worst movies we have ever seen. Watching and reviewing the 2003 comedy Kangaroo Jack was not just painful, it made us question what comedy really is. The script follows the misadventures of two stupid Americans, Louis (Anthony Anderson) and Charlie (Jerry O'Connell) as they chase an animated Kangaroo wearing a jacket with $50K in it throughout Australia. Christopher Walken also surprisingly makes an appearance as mafia boss Sal Maggio. We discuss the false advertising, inappropriate tone and lack of comedic factor amongst other things, and are left utterly exhausted by the end.
