At first blush, James’ compassionate last words might seem at odds with the robust way he has spoken to hypocrites (echoing his older brother) and called them to account for their double standards. What is different here? A ‘wanderer’ is not a hypocrite pure-and-simple, not seemingly a self-deceived pride-filled God-hater but rather a bruised reed (and we know how the Lord feels about those…)

Wisdom in community is not a po-faced and earnest thing: Celebration, healing, prevailing prayer and forgiveness are the pulsing blood of the community of Christ. Authority is given by the Lord to his under-Shepherds to minister as servants in healing power to one another and make manifest the Kingdom that is coming. The power of the kingdom is exercised in gentleness, confidence and joy.
