  • Why And How To Have A Team Night

    12/04/2018 Duração: 23min

Team Night's have become a great way to build community, hone the creative experience, and share the vision and direction of the team within the church. At the end of the day, teams of musicians, leaders, production, and creatives all desire to be connected to a community of like minded people. When we open up a space for God to speak and encourage us by being around each other, amazing things can happen.  In this episode, we discuss many different options for team nights. The last thing musicians that are consistently serving in the church probably need is another "service" to go to... but dinner together, nights of worship and prayer together, and nights to just hang, have a fire pit, drink coffee, or play games can be essential to growing together and leaning on each other as a family. • Being A Leader (Off Stage)

    05/04/2018 Duração: 25min

Being a leader is what's expected out of a worship leader... but leadership is not something automatically assumed from a position... it's something earned, and comes as a byproduct of serving and helping people. In Episode 18, we discuss what some of these different roles look like, how to best serve the teams we're leading, and how there should be no difference in your approach to leading/serving off stage as there is on. • How To Be Ready for Anything

    29/03/2018 Duração: 17min

In Episode 17, Brenton Miles, Worship Leader, Producer, & Co-Host sits down with Libby Lewis, Worship Leader, Songwriter, Vocal Coach, & Worship Online team member to talk about how to be ready for anything in a worship set or service. It's common where worship leaders and teams have to be ready for last minutes changes, songs, keys, and sometimes even different genres from what we're commonly used to! In this episode, we talk about how to build a relationship with your pastor to know their direction, habits, and communication styles to know where they're headed even if it's not the pre-communicated roadmap. Unity is key, and so is serving your pastors. As a musician, team leader, or band director, being ready for anything is a huge part of flow and eliminating distractions in a worship set. • Performance VS. Worship

    22/03/2018 Duração: 20min

In Episode 16, Brenton Miles, Worship Leader, Producer, & Co-Host sits down with Libby Lewis, Worship Leader, Songwriter, Vocal Coach, & Worship Online team member to discuss the difference between performance and worship as a worship team or worship leader. This came from a question that was e-mailed to us from worship leaders/pastors from around the country.  We talk about the difference between the two mindsets... where performance can tend to have a standard of perfection, whereas worship is a posture of the heart for obeying God and serving people. In Episode 14, Brenton Miles, Co-host & Worship Leader sits down with Phil Joel, Zealand frontman and Worship Leader to talk all things worship and the journey that God has taken Phil on over the last 25 years of being a full time touring musician and recording artist. You may recognize Phil's voice from his recent projects as the frontman of Zealand, or maybe from his past years as the bass player and singer for Newsboys.  In this episode, the guys talk about so many topics relating to worship... like being yourself, saying yes, and the freedom found when taking a "risk" and jumping into all that God has. In the natural it seems risky, but God will never let us down... so jump in! • Be That Person Who Says Yes

    01/03/2018 Duração: 18min

In Episode 13, we unlock the full potential of a worship leader - Being a person that always says "YES". Being a person that gains influence and grows in leadership, typically carry a few patterns that you can recognize pretty quickly. A few that stand out are: a good attitude, someone who's constantly excited about the vision and instruction, and someone who always says "yes".  Anytime you go to an improv show, it's taught that any idea that's thrown out is always "Yes, And" - Shalon unpacks this thought more in the episode. Instead of being someone who always says, "ya, I don't think that's going to work" - figure out a way to say "Yes, and we can add this too" - Watch how that will shift the environment of your team if everyone had that approach. • Who's In Charge On Your Team

    22/02/2018 Duração: 25min

In Episode 12, Shalon shares a personal story of one of the scariest moments in his life... No joke, if we all had a moment like that, it would be unforgettable.  You'll have to listen in to hear the story...  But it ties right into what we're talking about - Knowing who's in charge. It's important to know who's making the calls and who the leader is inside of a church setting. Organization and leadership is paramount to a healthy church.  But it all starts with a mutual respect and honor of each other. The mindset that we're all family and working together as a team to accomplish a goal. But it's also knowing who's in charge and who makes the final decision.  It's been said that the primary worship leader in the church is the Lead Pastor. I couldn't agree more. The church is following their lead. If they entrust other leaders, the church will follow them as well, wholeheartedly... but the atmosphere and passion in a room (the temperature) is set by the lead pastor. • Avoiding Train Wrecks

    08/02/2018 Duração: 14min

In Episode 10, we talk about the importance of avoiding train wrecks in a worship set. It all starts with good communication. When the band is clear on where you're headed, there's a good chance you'll avoid any mishaps or train wrecks. When the band is clueless and people are communicating different things... that's where the breakdown occurs. It's really difficult to not be distracted by a train wreck. This episode goes hand in hand with being prepared. But it's so much more than that. This is not only being musically prepared, but having the knowledge in the moment when NOT to play something. Or communicating ahead of time with the MD or band director so you and everyone else are aware of where you're going beforehand.  We'd love if you shared any train wreck stories you may have had recently or not-so-recently. • Humility, An Honest Conversation

    18/01/2018 Duração: 19min

In Episode 7, we get real and talk about the importance of humility as worship leaders. Now... how do you have an open and honest conversation about humility with a couple of musicians on a podcast? --- we have not idea. But it starts with this quote - "Humility is being comfortable in your own skin."  The opposite of humility can look different. It can look like insecurity, arrogance, lack of self confidence or self worth... whereas some characteristics of someone who walks in humility, is service, confidence, and influence. Confidence is key to healthy leadership, but leadership is a bi-product of service. If you don't serve people first, then how will you know how to lead?  In this episode, we start the conversation and ask some of the hard questions, while also point out some examples. • The Secret Weapon To Success As A Musician

    31/12/2017 Duração: 27min

Prepare - Prepare - Prepare!   Preparation is key to the success of every musician. Next to the heart behind worship, preparation truly is the most important piece to a smooth and enjoyable experience while leading worship. It’s also the entire purpose behind starting Worship Online in the first place!   Being prepared adds a whole new level of influence and respect within a team. In addition to showing up early, treating people with respect and professionalism, when a musician shows up knowing all their parts, pedals, hits, melodies… it makes everyone else feel comfortable and confident.   Again, like most of the things we’ll cover in this podcast, it goes back to serving. When you show up prepared, you’re serving your team, leaders, and ultimately giving God your best.   In this episode, we go even deeper in uncovering the heart behind being prepared. Truly, the best experiences in worship are the unexpected. So if we stop preparing after the 3-4 songs that we have to play in the set list, what about the “f

  • Be Professional, Not Annoying

    31/12/2017 Duração: 14min

We can probably all recall a musician along the way who would show up to band practice, get their gear setup, then start playing immediately while everyone was still setting up. Or the guy (or girl) who shows up without their capo, in-ears, picks, or sticks… maybe the vocalist who decided to come in after their outside job without the chance to shower first or at least wear deodorant… The list goes on….   But, like we mentioned in Episode 2 - Our team members, our family, others… are more important. If we have the decision to be selfish or selfless, we must always chose the latter. When we have a mindset of consistently serving others, our professionalism sky rockets. When we are oblivious to other people… we are just plain annoying.   So… simply put - Arrive early. Get setup quickly. Then find someone else to help! Imagine if we all had the mindset of not just serving our congregations… but our team members.   Sign up to win a free annual subscription to Worship Online, and stay connected with our team at ht

  • The Importance Of Showing Up Early

    31/12/2017 Duração: 08min

Simply put, this is a no-brainer. If you want an easy way to influence your team and show them that you care about THEM… may we introduce the most affective sub-conscience way to do so - showing up early.   Brenton’s pastor growing up used to always say “if you’re on time, you’re late.” - This is something a lot of people disregard and don’t think much about. But how many times have you noticed, when you walk into a meeting and the person you’re meeting with is already there, how it feels different than when they’re not there.   The same goes for rehearsals. When everyone is early, set up, and ready to go, then when rehearsal starts, everyone feels at ease and confident. When someone is still dialing in tone, running around to find cables, changing strings when it’s time to start… it pushes everything back… then when you have a song that’s rough, or technical issues you have to work out, you’re already running late and it causes unnecessary stress. Whereas, if everyone is on time, there’s a marginal space to

  • Why We Play Worship Music & The Heart Behind It

    31/12/2017 Duração: 24min

In this episode, we talk about the heart behind worship. The "Seek First" principle is something we should all have as a number one priority in our lives as Christians… especially as worship leaders. Matthew 6:33 says “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”   The entire point of leading worship is to help other people connect with this truth. When we seek God first, He becomes the foundation of our lives and everything else is a bonus… a blessing. When He is first, and his people (Kingdom) are a priority in our lives, then playing, singing, charts, sets, etc. all become secondary… simply put, they are expressions or tools that we use to help facilitate an encounter with God, with him being the ultimate priority and focus.   This is why aside from our introduction, it’s our first official episode… because it’s the most important… the foundation for this entire podcast. As we unpack more logistics, questions, things to make us sharper in the world of wo
