Sitting down with a blue collar Oregon dude that has conquered much in his life.  At age 46 Scott can back squat over 400lbs and has harvested 19 elk with archery equipment.  He wasn't always fit and out crushing Train to Hunt challenges, there was a time when he struggled with his weight almost weighing 300lbs.  Scott has an inspiring story of taking control of his life and using elk hunting to find the best version of himself. This is an extremely important episode for anyone exploring the backcountry in bear country.  Today we bring on Bob Legasa who is an avid archery elk hunter from Idaho who survived a grizzly bear attack back in October of 2018 while elk hunting near Gardner, Montana.  Bob was hospitalized for just shy of a week and had to under go surgery.  He's a lucky guy with an important message and tells the full story of how bear spray saved his life.  Share this one with your friends. What started as an idea, quickly escalated to a reality this weekend.  20 humble, hungry and positive elk hunters made their way to Spokane Valley, WA for 3 days for the inaugural ElkShape Camp.  I was joined by some of the most amazing humans as subject matter experts to help this camp knock the socks off of the attendees.  Thank you doesn't quite cut the mustard. This camp was supposed to impact and elevate everyone's game, but ultimately it made me understand the importance of encouragement, humility, and positivity.  So thank you all for making me a better version of myself. After many years of saving up for a Mountain Lion Hunt and hustling several outfitters to work out some sort of arrangement, I got the call I've been waiting for.  As a resident of Washington State you cannot use dogs to hunt Mountain Lions like you once were able to.  Lion numbers are growing and management is extremely difficult without the use of dogs.  I have been hoping to find an outfitter in Idaho that could help me achieve my bucket list hunt of hunting cats with dogs, and I finally got the best hound guy to return my phone call and take me out for lion hunting.  Mike from Longtail Outfitters is a 25 year old houndsman who runs a legit operation out of northern Idaho. Brian Rhead is sort of a legend in my mind.  He's a blue collar lineman by day, he hustles on the side as a taxidermist, and he's hunted around the world.  He guides in Alaska and Mexico, and he's the only guy I know that is not a millionaire that has the wild sheep Grand Slam.  He did it in 3 years on a blue collar budget.  He traded his time for guiding, taxidermy, and had some luck, but in 3 years time he did the unthinkable and harvested all 4 wild sheep - Rocky, Stone, Dall and Desert. Great episode today with Ber Yang of Pure Trophies.  This guy and his team have put down a grip of bulls over the last 20 years, many of them over 300" and all on public land.  It's hard to describe their level of consistent success, so I will direct you to their website and their YouTube to see for yourself the caliber of bulls these guys consistently connect on.  I have hunted similar country where they find success and most people will not kill a bull there, let alone pass on any opportunity when presented with a hard earned shot.  The brush bulls of Western Montana and parts of Idaho can make for frustrating hunting.  The brush itself can prevent you from getting a clear shot, even when a bull is a mere 5 yards away.  Binoculars are worthless in this country, any many folks will quickly grow tired of fighting the dense underbrush and steep terrain that these elk call home.  The elk numbers are low and the country is in the heart of wolf country plus other predators.  Ber and his four brothers have been po

For our 50th episode we brought on a living legend!  I'm honored to have none other than Larry D. Jones on today's show.  Larry is a member of the bowhunting hall of fame, a pioneer when it comes to elk calling and hunting.  He's probably forgot more than I will ever know about hunting elk, so you're in for a great episode.
