Deardra Shuler, the host of Topically Yours, will interview Judy Mann, of the singing group, the Chiffons.  Originals Chiffons: Judy Craig (Mann), Pat Bennett and Barbara Lee.The Chiffons formed in 1960 while in Monroe High School in the Bronx. The lead singer at the time was 14 year old Judy Craig, who sang along with Patricia Bennett and Barbara Lee, both 13. They met writer/manager Ronnie Mack at the after-school center. Up to that time Mack's claim to fame was a 1959 local Philadelphia hit by Little Jimmy (Rivers) and the Tops (V-Tone Records) entitled "Puppy Love."  The Chiffons began recording in 1962,  when Ronnie Mack, while marketing his songs met producers Phil and Mitch Margo, Jay Seigel, and Hank Medress a.k.a. The Tokens. They liked Mack's song, "He's So Fine." Mack brought in the Chiffons to sing it. The song was released on Laurie Records. That's when the intro line of "doo lang doo lang doo lang" became the newest nonsensical addition to the rock 'n roll vernacular.  "He's So Fine" moved to #1

Dr. King continues to be one of misrepresented figures in the 20th century. His more than 12 years of political work has been systematically reduced to a "dream" and carefully-chosen sound bites by the mainstream media, writers, and historians. Thus, the general public knows almost nothing about the 2nd major phase of Dr. King's political career, which began in 1966 when he embraced human rights, black power, and a program to eliminate poverty in America. Deardra Shuler talks with Charles Palmer of the Drifters about their upcoming engagement at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts as part of Unforgettable Doo Wop on Saturday, January 28th at 8:00 p.m., featuring such singers and groups as The Drifters featuring Charlie Thomas, The Chiffons, Herb Reed's Platters, The Coasters, and Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners. Doo Wop emerged from the streets of New York City and Philadelphia becoming a unique African American vocal style in the mid-1950's.  In time, other ethnicities and groups such as Dion and the Belmonts and the Capris took up Doo Wop’s mantle and blended their smooth harmonies into the musical genre. The term “doo wop” was taken from the ad-lib syllables sung in harmony in these songs.  “Doo wop” and a range of “oldies” music are celebrated by musicians and audiences worldwide as a distinctive American sound. Cyberspace Sanctuary host Junious Ricardo Stanton and William Reed a long time journalist, editor and former Executive Director of the National Newspaper Publishers Association the trade association for the US Black press discuss Reed's latest column on the rise of Ron Paul as a genuine contender for the Republican presidential nomination. Reed feels Paul's views on foreign policy mirror those of Martin Luther King Jr. They discuss how Paul is being marginalized and dogged by the corporate media, what his policies and message mean for Black folks and how Ron Paul drastically differs from the rest of the Republican field.

Junious Ricardo Stanton provides a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on the observance of his natal day. Today's program  charts King's rise and progress as an activist and icon by providing rare audio of King's first speech to the Montgomery Improvment Association as well as  his Silence is Betrayal speech against the Vietnam War. Mr. Reed shares his latest column on the historic settlement resulting from an NAACP anti-discrimination suit filed against several large mortgage companies and banking conglomerates  which resulted in a multi-million dollar pay out to the victims of predatory lending practices and fraud.
