Host Deardra Shuler talks with playwright Jeffrey Sweet about his play Court Martial at Fort Devens, starring Nambi Kelley. A playwright in her own right, Kelley will talk about the role of Ginny Boyd, a WAC during WW2.  A Woodie King Jr production in collaboration with the Castillo Theatre, located at 543 W. 42nd St, NYC, Court Martial at Fort Devens is the true life story of a strike by Black female  members of the Women's Army Corps (WACs) stationed in Massachusetts during World War II.  The women joined the corp to train as nurses, only to be relegated to janitorial duties, and other manual labor.  Angry, they were removed from nurse training due to the racism of the Units Commanding officer, the brave women battled for racial equality in a segregated US military, refusing to obey orders which led to a court martial and possible death. Directed by Mary Beth Easley, the cast features Alia Shakira Chapman, Evander Duck, Gillian Glasco, Frank Mayers, Emma O'Donnell, Bill Tatum, Keona Welch and Eboni Witcher

Following a screening of the documentary Dark Girls on March 10 in Philadelphia co-producer D. Channsin Berry held a Q&A session with the audience. Cyberspace Sanctuary producer and host Junious Ricardo Stanton was present to record the session. The film Dark Girls examines colorism within the African diaspora, how people of African ancestry males and females alike have been impacted by racism. It shows how we have internalized the notion that dark skin is ugly,how we have been conditioned to believe and act out in our lives thenotion richly endowed melanin women are less beautiful, less desirable and less attractive as partners. The film shares the experiences of dark skinned women interspersed with comments by mental health professionals, historians black and white men to paint a disturbing picture of menticide and self hatred that permeates the African diaspora. Thankfully the film also provides glimpses of resilience and healing.

Host Deardra Shuler talks with Ailey ll dancer Paige Fraser who has defied all odds. Paige was diagnosed with severe Scoliosis which affects the alignment of the spine and pelvis. Her doctors advised surgery telling her a career in dance was highly unlikely.   Going against doctors’ orders, she kept dancing, never had the surgery, and used Gyrotonics to help keep her spine in a more stable place.  Nine years later, she finds herself a part of Ailey II.  A Bronx resident and senior in the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program as a scholarship student, within  the last year, Fraser has performed in over 35 US cities and internationally in Bermuda, Germany, Finland and Greece. Ms. Fraser completed her freshman year of college at the Dominican University of California as a dance major at Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet.  She has also trained in summer programs at American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Jacob’s Pillow, Juilliard, and Complexions and has worked with Desmond Richardson, Darrell Grand Moultrie, and Camille

Host Junious Ricardo Stanton shares the audio from the March 2, 2012  50th Anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points against the New York Knickerbockers. The commemorative luncheon was held Friday March 2 at the First District Plaza in Philadelphia. It was attended by Wilt's family, former team mates from High School, The Harlem Globetrotters and the NBA. The event was sponsored by the Wilton Norman Chamberlain Postal Stamp Committee a group of Philadelphia individuals and organizations attempting to get a US Postal stamp in honor of Chamberlain who still holds 98 NBA records.

Host Adilah Barnes rounds out Black History month with her guest, 6-time Grammy winning star Florence LaRue of the renowned 5th Dimension. An original member of The 5th Dimension, Florence continues to perform, lecture and serve as a celebrity judge for beauty pageants, such as Miss Universe.  A mother, grandmother, speaker, actress, vocalist, and humanitarian, LaRue is a  sought after lecturer and speaker. She appeared in the CBS movie, “Happy” with Dom DeLouise and performed in the national tour of Broadway’s Tony Award winning musical, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and starred in the Toronto production of “Mo Magic.”  She appeared as a celebrity guest on “Star Search,”  “The Dale Evans Show,”  “The Today Show,” & “The Carol Lawrence Show.”  She graduated California State College with a Bachelors in education.  Ms. LaRue was named Woman of the Year by The City of Hope, and won the Spirit of Life Award.
