This question, posed by wonderful 100 Not Out listener and community member, Bron, is the topic of today’s episode. Her full question (provided here with Bron’s permission) is – “As Damo would know I am a patient of his. I am 44 next week and have to date had several organs removed. Stomach – due to cancer, gall bladder, appendix, full hysterectomy. What effect does organ removal have on longevity? As I’ve always thought everything works together and has a function and place. Particularly the stomach and gall bladder. I am surprised how well and healthy I live without them. But it does concern me that it has shortened my life. A big thanks to Damo for his awesome guidance.” Thanks so much for your question Bron. If you have a question you would like to be discussed then send it through to marcus@marcuspearce.com.au or DM us on Facebook or Instagram. 100NO 436: Vale Dexter Kruger, Australia’s Oldest Man | Managing Social Fractures
01/08/2021 Duração: 23minThe country this week is equally mourning the loss of and celebrating the list of Australia’s oldest man, Dexter Kruger. We were fortunate to interview Dexter twice on 100 Not Out. The first time was in 2013 on episode 17 and the second came on episode 252 alongside his friend and writing aid, Janet Rowlings. Dexter broke a number of guidelines or “rules” on his way to 111 years young. He is renowned for his rule-breaking diet, but what is spoken of less is how well he navigated a strong social life. On episode 17 he shared his social rituals, which as simple as they seem, we can all take a lot from. In the midst of what is currently a socially tense time in our communities, we not only pay homage to Dexter Kruger’s long and celebrated life, but the legacy he leaves not only in his books, but in his ability to connect with humanity.
