Testing Positive | My two-week COVID-19 Experience | Thoughts from an Engineer TIS #221
30/10/2020 Duração: 28minWe're back! After two weeks with COVID-19, and taking alot of rest and basically putting life on hold - the podcast has returned. A huge thank you to the Today In Space fam for reaching out, sending good vibes, and offering to help. It was a crazy time, and you definitely helped us get through this. THANK YOU! I wanted to take this episode to share my experience with COVID. I did test positive and I had intense symptoms for 14 days. This is meant to be an episode for anyone who is interested in what the symptoms are like, a breakdown of my anecdotal experience, and a reminder as we enter fall and winter, which is historically an easier time to catch flus & diseases. We're not quite out of the woods yet with this pandemic, and I had a lot of questions after posting online that I tested positive. So here we are - an engineers observations of having COVID-19, after 8 months and 32 episodes of lockdown. Be well folks - have good habits!

Bringing Ideas into Reality with 3D Printing | Creators of the Snap Collar Jack Collins & Mike Sullivan | TIS#220
09/10/2020 Duração: 35minThis week we have the creators of the Snap Collar on to discuss their product before it launches on Kickstarter on October 13th, 2020. We had the pleasure of working with them early in the development stages of their design and used 3D printing and iterative design to fast-track their idea from paper to product. Iterative design is a core tenant in the New Space world, we see this concept in real life with SpaceX's Starship and the Falcon 9. Our 3D printing lab AG3D uses that concept to help people bring their ideas into reality. We're very excited for the launch of Snap Collar and wish both Jack & Mike the best in the next stage of their idea adding value to people like you Follow them on Instagram @snapcollar

Hope for the future of Space Colonies with Starship, 3D printing rovers, and Martian Lava tubes | TIS#219
02/10/2020 Duração: 18minThis week has been tough for me - so I hope you're hanging in there. Stress overload. I usually end up thinking 'big picture' and looking to the future when that happens. So for this episode, I pull together some research on how we might make space colonies possible. For me, I'm putting alot of stake into SpaceX's Starship being the vehicle for progressive change to human life on the Moon and Mars. We also talk about some of the latest orbital news to follow up from last episode, since almost all launches we discussed have been delayed since then. We also have an official date for Crew-1 and a follow up on what they learned from Demo-2. I also nerd out about the importance of the Space Toilet. Wishing you well! Thoughts from an Engineer: Neuralink, The Future, and 9-11 | Today in Space #216
11/09/2020 Duração: 34minThis week Alex shares his thoughts on the future ahead of us, and just how weird it's going to get. Neuralink is the obvious front runner, allowing us to interface with the brain at a level unheard of before. Lots of great things for those affected by blindness, deafness, paralysis, memory loss, and stroke complications. But it could be used for a lot of bad too, and we need to start thinking about it ahead of time. The tool called Neurolink is not good or bad, its how its used. This idea of not assigning intent to a tool brings me to the 9-11, and the devastating loss that so many experienced that day in 2001. I share my thoughts as an adult looking back at it since I was experiencing it at as 11 year old. Did the use of a commercial airliner stop me from having an interest in aerospace? Did it prevent me from becoming an Aerospace Engineer? Neuralink Website: https://neuralink.com/ Most recent demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVvmgjBL74w

Galileo Rocket Review, SpaceX's Falcon9 1049B, and Launchapalooza! | TIS#214
28/08/2020 Duração: 32minIt's a busy week in space this week! Launchapalooza is upon us with 5 rocket launches planned for the weekend - SpaceX, ULA, RocketLab, and Astra We also have to discuss the Falcon9 B1049 because it has broken the latest threshold for reusability, and we discuss how fast the team is turning these rockets around for flight. Finally, its time for a design review of the 3D printed Galileo Rocket. We've learned so much from iteratively designing this model rocket, and we've found some hidden treasures along the way. We think we've found a way to help us spread love & science to schools & communities that are cutting budgets and losing STEM programs. A New Hope - SpaceX & NASA together, End of an Era, and Self-Care | The Balance TIS213
19/08/2020 Duração: 24minHey there Space People! Apologies for the week off - life and COVID finally got the best of me and needed to take care of myself. Now that I've been tested and hydrated again we're back! I share my thoughts on getting tested with THE SWAB and how nobody really knows anything about this virus (including myself). I also share my thoughts on the 'New Hope' of the space industry (and possibly humanity) of SpaceX& NASA finally working together and ending the culture war that's plagued the industry for at least 10 years. I relate the only way I can - by sharing stories of my younger-more-angsty-self learning to be an Aerospace Engineer experiencing the Old Space vs New Space 'culture war' in real time. Just wanted to reflect on my experience 10 years later at the end of an era which values teamwork and an open private-government partnership to tackle the next generation of human spaceflight for NASA. SpaceX Double Fairing Recovery, Tianwen-1 to Mars, and a science-based approach to dealing with bullshit information in our daily lives
24/07/2020 Duração: 33minIt was a busy week in space this week! Lots to talk about - China is off to Mars with it's first rover, SpaceX successfully achieved another level of reusability capabilities, the return date for Demo-2 and Astronauts Bob & Doug is official (and soon!). And we have a progress update on our Galileo rocket project after our first design session. Next one is this coming Sunday - follow us on facebook at Today In Space Podcast to get an update when we do. Join us! I also decided to expand on a previous idea from the podcast, the scientific ladder of ideas. The same way that scientific ideas go from a hypothesis to a theory can also help us get better at filtering through the bullshit information in our daily lives. It's helped me, and if it helps even one other person - it's worth sharing! Have a good week - be well! Rocket Project Update, Biosphere2, Europa Clipper freed of SLS(?), and RocketLab's Anomaly | TIS#208
09/07/2020 Duração: 37minThis week has been crazy and busy - not only with all that's happening in the Space Industry, but in each of our lives. So I sat down and shared my thoughts on some of the things we've got going on and what we're following in Space. First - an update on the Rocket Project 2020! Voting is underway for us to name our first 3D printed model rocket. Head over to our instagram page @todayinspacepod to vote! We also take out some of our model rockets we'll be launching and comparing our rocket to. Second - we have to talk about mind and body balance. It's more important now than ever. I share what I've been up to - and a space movie for you in case you need an escape! Spaceship Earth on Netflix! All about Biosphere2 - which brings up a potential flaw in the idea of humans living on other planets. A cautionary tale for sure. Third, preliminary news that the Europa Clipper mission, to explore the subsurface ocean of one of Jupiters most unique moons gets surprising launch flexibility thanks to Congress actually wor

Launch Hangout | SpaceX Launches for Space Force | GPSIII-SV03 named to honor Col. Thomas G Falzarano | TIS207
02/07/2020 Duração: 33minThis episode is a recap of the live Launch Hangout for the SpaceX launch of GPSIII-SV03 mission for the Space Force. It was the first mission that SpaceX has done for the new branch of the military, as the Space Force is starting to take over some of the responsibilities of the Air Force during this transition period. As we found out during the launch, GPSIII-SV03 was dedicated to the memory of Col. Thomas G Falzarano, who unexpectedly passed away in May. We close this episode listening to part of the video made by Air and Space Force members close to the late Col. Falzarano. Its a reminder that going to space is never a single individual or a robotic rover - it takes village of dedicated people. Enjoy and be well - until next week, spread love and spread science.

Thoughts | SpaceX, NASA, Changing the World, and Addiction TIS#205
18/06/2020 Duração: 40minSpaceX was able to change the space world by launching American Astronauts Bob & Doug with the Demo 2 launch. It took 10 years and lots of hard work. I quit a pack a day cigarette addiction after 7 tries to ‘quit’, and 5 years of replacing the habit and rewiring my brain with podcasting and 3dprinting. How long will it take us to make real change in the world? What can we do to be in this for the ‘long haul’? How does addiction relate to changing the world? Well, I relate the only way I can, with my own experiences. Hope you enjoy the rant of an episode. Thanks for listening and being a part of this space science podcast!

Joshua Lynch - Legacy, Lifting Everyone up, Computer Science, Gaming, JMYSTIC | People of Science TIS#204
11/06/2020 Duração: 01h06minThis week I had the honor of having Josh Lynch (@JMYSTIC) on the podcast. Josh and I met when we both worked in tech retail and always connected on content creation and having an online presence. He's currently finishing up his Computer Science Engineering degree and continues his online brand JMYSTIC with his streaming, various youtube channels, social media, and interacting with the community he's built online. As an admirer of everyone building their own legacy, I've been wanting to talk to him about the journey and challenges of building a brand online. Josh is not only an engineer, but he uses his knowledge of the technical and combines it with the artistic to put out some great content. I enjoy watching his stuff whenever it comes up on my feed. There are some video games I know only from watching him play them. Josh recently put out this reaction video on one of his new channels, and he had an incredible message from his perspective as a young black man in America. We discussed the murder of George Fl
