Ep. 25 - Producer Brian Winett Discusses the Negro Leagues
28/10/2013 Duração: 45minThe research process continues with the 25th installment of the Bedford & Sullivan Podcast! I realized recently I was sorely lacking on my research of not only the Negro Leagues in Brooklyn, but Black American history in Brooklyn overall. Producer Brian Winett has been working on developing a TV Series regarding the Negro Leagues, and though his project is not at all Brooklyn-centric, he has gathered plenty of fascinating material regarding the rich history of Black baseball before integration. We'll discuss his personal baseball roots, what attracted him to the subject of the Negro Leagues, and the character of Rube Foster (the Negro Leagues pioneer). We'll also talk some shop, discussing what the narrative script writing process is like for Brian. So, join us at 3PM ET for the latest edition of the Bedford & Sullivan Podcast!

Ep. 24 - Svein Arber Talks About "Seasons Past"
26/10/2013 Duração: 34minIt is a special weekend edition of the Bedford & Sullivan research process, as we welcome back retired SF State Lecturer Svein Arber to the program. Svein, along with co-writer Ford Hovis, wrote a novel in the 1970's under the pen name "Damon Rice" titled "Seasons Past." The book details the lives of three generations of the Rice family as they make their way through New York baseball history, from the late-1850's through the Dodgers and Giants exit. There is so much to cover, so on this episode, we will start with the first generation of Fletcher Rice, as he gets entangled in the black mark of the early part of baseball's history: gambling. So, join us at 12PM ET for the latest edition of the Bedford & Sullivan podcast!

Ep. 23 - Rick Elliott, Family Friend of Pitcher Clem Labine
21/10/2013 Duração: 31minThe stories pouring into the Bedford & Sullivan podcast have been fantastic, and today will be no exception. The late great Clem Labine, a pitcher on those Boys of Summer teams, was a Woonsocket, RI, native. At the age of 16 he went to work at Jacob Finklestein & Sons, a garment company owned by Rick Elliott's father, Elliott Finklestein, that eventually became the 7th largest outwear manufacturer in America. Clem and Rick's father became the best of friends, and Rick has numerous stories to tell about his childhood as, and I quote, "the most blessed child in U.S. history...not just because of Clem, but also because of an amazing dad, and all the opportunities the two dear friends saw as priceless gifts to their boys' lives." So, join us at 12PM ET for the latest edition of the Bedford & Sullivan podcast!

Ep. 21 - Larry King Talks Playoffs, & of Course, Dem Bums
11/10/2013 Duração: 34minLarry King is still a very busy man after all these years, and I (Sam Maxwell) advise you all to keep up with his show on ora.tv/larrykingnow. They are taping a bunch today, and they tried to accommodate me to the best of their abilities. I went on and on for most of the show about Dodger/Cardinal rivalry history, as well as talking some playoff baseball with the NL and AL Championship series ready to get underway. And I also started talking about where I am in the writing process. After riding solo for most of the way, Larry was finally able to call around 27 minutes into the show. Though most of you may jump to that clip, I certainly wasn't too shabby holding down the fort.
