40 Acres & A Fool

It's been slow at the Edwards farm but it looks like their pig still hasn't given birth! Cam also has some sad news as a fox has gotten into the chickens. One of the chickens apparently didn't want to go down without a fight.

Where’d winter go? On the 40 Acres, the daffodils are blooming, crickets and frogs are chirping in the evenings, and it’s warm enough for shirt sleeves. While it feels great to get the garden ready while wearing a t-shirt and not a parka, Cam & Miss E are more than a little concerned about the effects of a March or April freeze on the garden and fruit trees.

Cam Edwards and Miss E, talk about the plans they have for their home garden, as well as checking in with other gardeners and seeing how their gardens are coming along. They talk about the types of produce they are expecting this season, especially for tomatoes. Hoping that the weather does not interfere with the taste of the tomatoes they are hoping to grow this time around.

For the humans on Corny Goat Farm, life’s been pretty good lately. The same cannot be said for one little goat named Toffee. Cam & Miss E have the terror-filled tale, along with the first steps towards this year’s garden and emails from homesteads, small farms, and future farmers as well. Along with a spontaneous trip to a winery.

Cam and Miss E travel to Wegmans Winery to check out Trump Wines, to see if people are actually going to protest the wine. During their visit, they taste different wines and ciders and discuss the flavors and textures, as well as; all the family friendly things to do at Wegman's Winery.

Cam’s back at the kitchen table, and after an absence of several weeks, the familiar voice of Miss E is with him as well. They’ve got updates on pregnant pigs on the 40 Acres, protests in downtown Farmville, and some great conversations with friends old and new.

The calendar's turned to February, and spring seems right around the corner. Cam and Miss E are wondering if they'll be able to stay on track with their garden prepping and planting, thanks in part to an unanticipated setback for Miss E and her cancer treatment.

Cam discusses getting his plans together for the coming planting season and reflects on how spring always seems to sneak up on him. He plans on keeping his teenage son away from the girls and busy preparing the garden, and talks about keeping the critters from eating his vegetables.
