Chelsea are 7th in the Premier League, their league form having suffered from rotation due to participation in the Champions' League. They faced Nottingham Forest in the 4th round of the FA Cup and were making good progress in the Champions League group stage 2.Chris Sutton had been firing blanks and Vialli shocked the football world with the signing in January of AC Milan's George Weah, a former World Footballer of the Year. Weah became an instant Chelsea cult hero by socring the winner against Spurs in the 87th minute to keeo our 10 year unbeaten run against them in tact.Chelsea's league form was still up and down but the FA Cup and Champions' League were a different story. With Gianluca Vialli retiring, Chris Sutton was bought from Blackburn Rovers for £10 million and it was hoped that he would provide the goals to mount a challenge on the elusive Premier League title and deep in to Europe.With the addition of French World Cup winning Captain, Didier Deschamps, Chelsea had a squad full of foreign world class talent and many believed they were set up to do well. The season began with a 4-0 rout of Sunderland and Gus Poyet's stunning goal which augered well.In the first group stage of the Champions' League, Chelsea proved they were at home in Europe's elite competition with impressive draws against AC Milan, home and away and a staggering 5-0 away victory over Galatasary.
