Kinsey Casey currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Pittsburgh under Mayor Bill Peduto. She comes to the City of Pittsburgh after serving as the inaugural Chief of Staff at Emerge America, a national nonprofit that trains Democratic women to run for office. Previously, she served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh. Kinsey also served in the Obama Administration for seven years, as Chief of Staff for Secretary John Kerry’s Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. State Department. Prior to her time at State, Kinsey was the National Security Director for Presidential Personnel at the White House, where she managed political appointments across national security-related agencies. She began her service in the Obama Administration at the Department of Homeland Security, where she managed domestic and international travel logistics for Secretary Janet Napolitano. AmyJo Brown is project editor for the Pittsburgh Media Partnership, a new collaborative of local news organizations working in the greater Pittsburgh region. A veteran investigative reporter and western Pennsylvania native, Brown has worked in local newsrooms around the country, at publications of all types — from the East Oregonian in the cowboy country of Oregon to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock to Pittsburgh’s alt-weekly, the City Paper. She is a member of Take the Lead’s 2019 cohort “50 Women Who Can Change the World in Journalism.” Brown also teaches journalism as an adjunct instructor at Point Park University and is the secretary/treasurer of the Pittsburgh Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. We talked with her about her goals for the Pittsburgh Media Partnership and got her thoughts about local journalism and the potential for collaboration.
