A collaborative effort between English and NOW Plus, focusing on one of two class novels: Al Capone Does My Shirts, by Ginnifer Choldenko, and Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick. Students were asked to pick a topic associated with the themes and/or characters associated with the book, and create a podcast episode around those topics.

This year, students are being tasked with creating various levels of complexity, within their mash-ups, through Sternberg's Models of Ability. In Mr. Hartman's sample mash-up, iconic speeches from Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X., Rev. Jesse Jackson, and John F. Kennedy share the trials, tribulations, and hopes for future generations.

As an educator, I am always looking to ensure that my students have the opportunity to explore topics about which they are knowledgeable AND passionate. This current project - What's Going on NOW? - tasks them with creating a podcast about ANYTHING. My ultimate goal, of course, is to get them talking about a variety of topics, by which they will inform and excite others about the topics by which they themselves are informed and excited. As always, I like to provide an example (although mine goes beyond the 3-5 minute limit I imposed, so maybe I should reconsider that), and so I chose to create a podcast about something that has been my passion since I was 8 years old...comic books. Specifically, the 10+ years of the MCU and the upcoming - as of the writing of this description - Avengers: Infinity War.
