The Tony Perkins Show

In his apparent on-going effort to embarrass and humiliate his partner, Gary quizzes Tony yet again, this time with the "Tony Perkins Even HARDER Music Trivia Game".  Let's just say the results aren't pretty!  Plus: a truly odd TV commercial; what your iPhone won't do; gifts for Gary; our first-ever "Embarrassing Celebrity Encounter" from one of our listeners (!); and, sadly, what may be the final update from Rob about his "Date Lab" adventure.  

Tony and Gary salute David Letterman, as he steps down from the "Late Show with David Letterman", and ends his 33 years on late night TV on May 20th.  And renowned "TV Guide" critic Matt Roush joins the guys to help put the Letterman era in perspective.   Plus: Tony describes a very uncomfortable experience that makes him feel like a creepy old man; Gary tests just how "worldly" Tony is with a new game, "The Worldly World of Tony Perkins"; and both guys present, for your amusement and amazement, the WORST POP SONGS EVER.  You will not believe how bad at least one of these songs is!

In this uproarious and special episode, broadcasting legend Donnie Simpson sits in with the guys for nearly the entire show.   Donnie spent over 30 years as the KING of D.C. radio, first at WKYS-FM, and then at WPGC-FM.  He was also the original (and best) host of BET's "Video Soul" for nearly 15 years.  Tony was Donnie's morning show producer and on-air sidekick at WKYS for eight years, and this episode marks their first long-form reunion in many, many years.  30 years of friendship and laughter shine through, as Donnie tells amazing and hilarious stories about his years in broadcasting, and his encounters with such stars as Michael Jackson.

Tony has challenged Gary with movie trivia games on previous episodes. In this show, Gary finally strikes back with "The Tony Perkins REALLY Hard Music Trivia Game"!  And boy, does it live up to it's name!  Plus, an update on Rob Ford's dating life; why Gary smells like candy; and Tony's son Connor calls into the show!  Fun galore!  

As boxing fans gear up for the May 2nd 'Mayweather vs. Paquiao' fight in Las Vegas, Tony and Gary talk to former WBU Light Welterweight Champion MICKY WARD.  Ward's story was made famous in the fantastic 2010 film "The Fighter", starring Mark Wahlberg as Ward.  In a very candid (and surprisingly funny) conversation, Ward talks about his career, including his classic 2002-2003 trilogy of fights with Arturo Gatti, his subsequent friendship with Gatti, and the plans to make a sequel to "The Fighter".  Ward also reveals surprising information on how he's doing now, and he weighs in on Mayweather/Paquiao.   Oh, yeah, we almost forgot.  Gary and Tony also engage in an uproarious chat about "Blaxploitation" movies, and whether or not there should be a black James Bond.  This episode is rated "Not PC"!  Enjoy!

Tony and Gary showcase two more of their favorite interviews with two bold celebrities, Danny Aiello and Charlie Gibson. First, Tony and Gary talk with Gary's unofficial godfather and real Renaissance man: Academy Award nominated actor Danny Aiello. Danny talks candidly about his career as a film, stage, and TV actor, his love of singing, his roles in movies like Do the Right Thing and Moonstruck, and his 40-year-plus friendship with Gary. Next, Charlie Gibson (who worked with Tony and Gary from 1999-2005 on ABC’s Good Morning America alongside Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts) spotlights his ingenious wit and rarely seen unmatched sense of humor as Tony and Gary reminisce about compelling moments they shared at GMA (both good and bad) in a wickedly funny, yet honest tone that suggests (in the words of Charlie Gibson) “adversity builds collegiality”.

Last week's show was all movies, this week's show is all music...and our special guest is none other than jazz singer Sarah Partridge, who just happens to be Gary's lovely wife! Sarah talks about her brand new CD, "I Never Thought I'd Be Here" (available NOW on Amazon), and her inspiration for writing the album.  PLUS, if you think Sarah looks a little bit familiar, wait until you hear what movie she appeared in, and on what TV shows you may have heard her voice on...you won't believe it!  Then, Tony presents some music he thinks we all need to hear, and Gary does the same, in his new (old) segment, "I Hear Dead People".  A real toe-tappin' episode!

  Tony and Gary get to geek out with the nation's #1 movie geek, Kevin McCarthy, of Fox and Friends and Fox 5 in Washington, D.C.! The guys talk all things movies, and Kevin tells about meeting his movie stars and movie-making idols, including Steven Spielberg, who asked Kevin to make a movie for him!!! Also, Kevin previews this year's most talked-about movies (including Furious 7, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Entourage). PLUS: Tony informs Gary that the name "Gary" is no longer popular. In this CRAZY episode, Gary gives Tony a gift that only a REALLY close friend would dare to give.  (And even then....!!) After Gary's stellar performance in the "Movie Trivia Game" a few weeks ago, we decided to pit Gary against fellow movie trivia expert Robb Spewak - and it's a BATTLE ROYALE! Also, the truth about female anatomy, bizarre addictions, and an 8-year-old Gary has his first celebrity encounter!

May Pang was John Lennon's girlfriend from late 1973 to early 1975, while Lennon was separated from his wife, Yoko Ono.  In fact, it was Ono who set the two up!  In this warm and illuminating conversation, May describes what the time that Lennon later described as his "Lost Weekend" was really like.  She details just how creative he was during this time (the LPs "Mind Games", "Walls and Bridges", and "Rock and Roll" are from this period).  Even more significantly, she talks about helping Lennon re-establish his relationships with his first son, Julian, and with Paul McCartney.  Amazing stuff! Also: Tony and Gary talk about the essence of male competition, road-rage, and throwing out your back!

Please don't misread that title.  Rob Ford's Washington Post "Date Lab" date was NOT with CNN's Bill Weir!  However, this episode features BOTH!  First:  Rob fills us in on his big "Date Lab" night out with the lovely "Megan".  Then, Gary and Tony talk to their friend, journalist Bill Weir, about his new CNN series "The Wonder List".  Also, Tony tries to stump Gary with a game of Movie Trivia, AND Tony announces his decision about his cell phone situation.  Stop the presses!
