Eaa's The Green Dot

This time on EAA’s The Green Dot we meet Dennis Dunbar, director of AirVenture air show operations. Anyone who knows Dennis knows he is full of great stories, and he brought some of those to this episode of The Green Dot. This podcast is an interesting look at what goes into making an air show like EAA AirVenture Oshkosh happen, as well as a glimpse into Dennis’ introduction to aviation at a young age, and much more.

This week we have a special emergency edition of The Green Dot. Hal, Tom, and guest host Mack Dickson sit down with EAA CEO and Chairman of the Board Jack J. Pelton to discuss the air traffic control privatization legislation currently being debated in Congress. This episode covers the details of the proposal, the grave impact it could have on general aviation, and how members of the aviation community can get involved.

This week on EAA’s The Green Dot we meet our fearless leader, Jack J. Pelton, CEO and chairman of the board at EAA. Jack has a rich history in aviation and plenty of stories and memories to share, and luckily for us he was willing to do so on this episode. This podcast is a great look at how fun it is for us at EAA to interact with Jack on a daily basis, although there’s no replacement for the real thing.

This week we meet the EAA government advocacy team, including Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliott, Senior Government Advocacy Specialist Mack Dickson, and our own podcast host, Government Relations Director Tom Charpentier. Sean, Mack, and Tom provide an overview of EAA’s government advocacy work, including the recently implemented BasicMed medical certification rule, EAA’s work to bring inexpensive retrofit equipment to type-certificated aircraft, and new policy that expands legal protections on hangar use.

This week we welcome Charlie Precourt. Charlie resides on EAA's board of directors and is the vice president and general manager of Propulsion Systems Division at Orbital ATK. He has built a VariEze that first flew in 1987. A veteran of four space flights and member of the Astronaut Hall of Fame, Charlie held several management positions within NASA, including deputy program manager for the International Space Station, chief of the Astronaut Corps, and director of operations for NASA at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia.

This week we welcome Dick Knapinski, EAA's Director of Communications. We know that getting into—and around at—AirVenture may raise more questions than answers, especially for newbies, so Dick helps us simplify things, and debunk a few myths along the way.

This week we welcome John Monnett, a multi-thousand-hour private pilot with both glider and float plane ratings and an A&P Mechanic, who discusses his many designs and history of Sonex Aircraft.

In this episode, we hear from EAA director of publications Jim Busha about the things he’s seen during an epic story-gathering trip to Florida. Jim talks about his visits to Spruce Creek, the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, a celebration of Mustangs at Stallion 51, and shares with us some of the cool stuff he’s seen so far at the SUN ’n FUN International Fly-In & Expo. We even got him to do his world-famous impersonation of one of our hosts.
