The Denver Broncos will take on the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium. Super Bowl activities will take place in San Francisco, but fans will have to travel to Santa Clara on game day, which could bring with it a host of problems. Top names have been interviewed, with many believing that Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is the #1 choice of the organization. He’s certainly the #1 choice of a lot of fans. You win some. You lose some. In the case of the San Francisco 49ers, they just keep losing, and in ugly fashion. Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals was no exception, with the 49ers losing 24-10, and frankly, it was never really that close. So the beat goes on for the 4-10 Niners, as they play their final two games against the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams, on the road and at home, respectively. The 49ers got their first road win of the season, and it was exciting! Yes, they’re still 4-8, but they won on the road, in overtime, and showed heart doing it. These are all good things. They showed promise. That being said, the win wasn’t the only big news coming out of Ninerville this week. Team president Paraag Marathe was reassigned, which was a shocking move, as he has been one of the Jed York’s closest confidantes. There has been a lot said about York, and the frustration from the fans is rampant. This frustration is completely understandable, but he is the CEO, and he's not going anywhere. The San Francisco 49ers organization is a mess from top to bottom. In a twist no one saw coming (ok, not no one), the Blaine Gabbert led San Francisco 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons. Gabbert got the job done going 15 of 25 for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. But the real star of the show was the 49ers’ defense. After another loss and falling to 2-6, it looks like the San Francisco 49ers realize they’re in rebuilding mode, as they traded TE Vernon Davis and a 2016 7th-round pick to the Denver Broncos for a 6th-round draft pick in 2016 and a 6th in 2017. Although this is sad and signals the end of an era, the trade was not a surprise and makes sense in the long run for all parties. So now the 49ers’ offense moves on and continues to try to find its way in the world, or at least on the football field. Well, hello 49ers fans! Did San Francisco beat the New York Giants? No. But, are there reasons to still feel encouraged? You know it! The Niners lost 30-27, which was a tough one, but they looked like a real, live football team. The offense was clicking, and QB Colin Kaepernick quieted the critics, going 23-35 for 262 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. And you know what else? He looked like Kap. For the first time in a long time, Kaepernick looked confident and in control, so hallelujah! Football is a team sport Niners’ fans, and for the last three weeks, the San Francisco 49ers have lost as a team, due to lack of execution on both sides of the ball. San Francisco’s loss on Sunday was no exception, though there was a bright spot and that was the defense. It looked and played so much better, holding the Green Bay Packers to 17 points. This unit seems to have made the adjustments needed to keep the 49ers in games. Not to mention, this group of guys played its heart out. On the other hand, the offense, continued to struggle mightily, and it did so as a unit. That’s the key phrase, as a unit. The entire offense has a hand in its ineffectiveness. It is not one person or one group of people.
