  • Episode 140 - Star Trek: TNG - S3E16 The Offspring (56:04)

    04/08/2019 Duração: 56min

We boldly continue our summertime mission with our pal, Patrick MacFarlane of the Liberty Weekly Podcast discussing episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. You can check out Pat’s show at: http://www.libertyweekly.netThis one is Season 3, Episode 16 - The Offspring.Hoping to further his creator’s work and perpetuate his species, Data creates and android named Lal, who identifies as female. Is she a creation or an offspring. Do the rights afforded the father extend to his creation? There is some administrative fireworks between Picard and Admiral Haftel that are unfortunately defused by the plot convenience of Lal’s cascade failure, but this is still a fun episode that explores the concepts and situations around parenting, social interactions and education.Join us next week as we discuss "Crazy Heart" with our musician friend, Scott M.Show notes and more to be posted at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/140Presented by ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalis

  • Episode 139 - Reds (1:28:03)

    28/07/2019 Duração: 01h28min

We talk about the epic film “Reds” which follows John Reed as he covers the Bolshevik Revolution as an idealistic journalist with utopian visions of successfully implementing socialism. Our guest is Jon Reed (no relation) and we have a barn-burner of a discussion about this marathon of a movie that has some many discussion-nuggets that our show went a little long.A Ronald Reagan favorite. #9 on the top ten list of "epics". An obsession-project for Warren Beatty who would shoot up to 100 takes and keep the film rolling so that he had over two weeks of footage. This movie destroyed his relationship with Diane Keaton and got Gene Hackman to refuse a role a decade later. His speech scene instigated the crew to strike over "exploitation" demanding higher wages. Our guest has a penchant for long movies, apparently. His first appearance being for the nearly-3-hour DiCaprio flick "The Aviator".Jon Reed’s a communications professional who’s been a writer and video creator for the past 20 years. 14/07/2019 Duração: 01h13min

We hit you with “Bad Times at the El Royale” starring Jeff Lebowski and an ensemble cast. Set in the late 60’s, several strangers who are each walking contradictions, meet by chance at Lake Tahoe's El Royale, a former hotspot hotel straddling the California/Nevada border. Morality becomes different depending on which side of the line you're on. This is a fun discussion on a Tarantino-esque film that folds over itself, but leaves rough edges so you can fill in some of the blanks in the story on your own - intentionally. We promise that the next episode will be our wrap-up on Batman v Superman and also a discussion on Justice League with a little Man of Steel spice added in for flavor with our Australian friend, Shaheen.Show notes will be at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/137Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. 21/04/2019 Duração: 01h18min

We are joined by Stephen from AnarchoChristian to discuss the Mel Gibson movie, "The Passion of the Christ" for Easters. This was a potential powder-keg of an episode with two atheists and a Christian guest with a very controversial movie that intersects the not-polite conversation topics of politics and religion. We cross the streams for this extra-long Easter episode. The Passion of The Christ focuses on the last twelve hours of Jesus of Nazareth’s life. The film begins in the Garden of Olives where Jesus has gone to pray after The Last Supper. Jesus must resist the temptations of Satan. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, Jesus is then arrested and taken within the city walls of Jerusalem where leaders of the Pharisees confirm him with the accusations of blasphemy and his trial results in a condemnation to death.Check out our guest's site: http://www.anarchochristian.comJoin us next week as we get off this filthy rock, in honor of Earth Day, and head out on a “Galaxy Quest” with the Anarchist Mom.Show notes: ht

We pop into biosphere II in the Dark-City dome from the Hunger Games to battle it out with the socialist, Jim Carrey, as we discuss his 1998 film "The Truman Show" directed by Peter Weir. The movie is all about a utopian central-planner playing the role of a god (or a government for that matter) in the life of an unwitting subject of their hubris of control. There is plenty of philosophical meat to chew on in this one.We get into a wordy discussion with our returning guest Mike C. who admirably filled in for our other friend, Olof the Anarcho-Viking, who had a scheduling conflict arise recently. We're about to get crazy with the cheeze-wiz. Where is the curvature? This old-world idea has been resurrected in recent years, even some NBA players had made claims to it...that the Earth is flat.In libertarian circles, it has been one more useful tool in the process of weeding out FB friends. The flat-earthers feel like they are the correct and they are a marginalized group on the edge of science that follows the Gandhi “first they laugh at you.” We shall discuss.Join us next week as we continue our series on flat-earth for our episode on “The Truman Show” with returning guest, Olof the Anarcho-Viking.Show notes: https://www.actualanarchy.com/122Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.comRobert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.   Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and b

Separated from his wife Emma, amnesiac John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to learn he is wanted for a series of brutal killings.
