Well here's a weird one! Friend of the podcast Elizabeth Hopkins returns to discuss the little-seen 1995 film SEARCH AND DESTROY, the only film directed by American artist David Salle and produced by Martin Scorsese! Ethan plays cult leader Daniel Strong (Dennis Hopper)'s assistant who gets to slap Griffin Dunne around a bit. We talk cults, the charm of Illeana Douglas, John Tuturro's wig, artistic ambitions, and "a strong female character with huge tits". Keep Hawke-ing the skies!

Everybody, hands up! This is a podcast! We have a new release this week, one that finally made its way to Boston: STOCKHOLM! Directed by the same filmmaker who turned Ethan into Chet Baker for BORN TO BE BLUE, STOCKHOLM is the story of the 1973 bank hostage crisis from which the term "Stockholm syndrome" was born! In January of 2005, one of the darkest years of film on record, Ethan Hawke found himself in a modern remake of John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. And it turned out to be a lot of fun! Michael Roberson joins the five-timers club of Hawke Cast guests and joins us for a discussion of this 'pretty good' remake. Today, March 20th, is the second anniversary of Hawke Cast! Ain't that something special? To celebrate, we recorded an episode about one of Ethan's rare TV roles, because leaving anything out at this point is just irresponsible. Unfortunately, this role just so happens to be a voice on Adult Swim's worst (?) show, Robot Chicken. These jokes have aged worse than milk left on a porch. Also Ethan is in it for like 15 seconds. Why did we do this? Don't say we've never done anything for you. Never watch Robot Chicken. But always keep Hawke-ing the skies.

Howdy, folks! It's our first 2019 Ethan film discussion, THE KID directed by longtime Hawke-friend, Vincent D'Onofrio! It a western about Billy the Kid (Dane DeHaan, perfectly cast) and his longtime nemesis Sheriff Pat Garrett (Mr. Hawke). It's pretty good! Join us 'round the campfire for some tales of fake beards, director cameos, male shouting, and streaming content trends. And as always, keep Hawke-ing the skies!

What's so bad about drone bombing? Besides, well, everything about it. Ethan is trying to figure that out, while also trying to prevent the absolute decay of his immortal soul, in the 2014 film Good Kill. Zack Bond returns to discuss this Andrew Niccol-directed film about a drone pilot whose conscience is awakened after he kills civilians in Afghanistan from a box in Las Vegas. The film is available on Netflix and is worth checking out, even if you already know drone bombing should be a war crime. January Jones, Zoe Kravitz, and Bruce Greenwood costar. Third time's the Tom? *I am immediately strangled by my brother Paul Dano* For our final exploration of True West, we called up thespian Tom Phelan for his take on the proceedings. We talk Ethan's gut, toast, toasters, boyfights, Neil Gaiman possibly scamming some people, and much much more. This show sounds like a nice night out. Yes hello! For the final Hawke Cast of 2018, we got to do something very special. Here we have an interview with Vulture's own Hunter Harris, a wonderful writer and Ethan Hawke enthusiast. Hunter and I came together to discuss Ethan's stellar 2018, especially his soon-to-be-Oscar-nominated performance in First Reformed. We also talk about the Before Trilogy, Ethan's remarkable ability to give thoughtful interviews, Bradley Cooper's seeming lack of enthusiasm, and how Vice sucks. Let's just say, if Ethan doesn't get a Best Actor nomination, the Academy will be hearing from Harris. Thanks for listening to all 22 episodes this year.
