Chin is known for his roles in films like "The Dark Knight," "Contagion," "Independence Day: Resurgence," "2012," and the Netflix series "Marco Polo." Viet Thanh Nguyen is the author of "The Sympathizer," a spy novel set in the chaos of 1975 Saigon for which Nguyen won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Viet was born in Ban Me Thuot, Vietnam, and fled as a four-year-old with his family in 1975 to the U.S. as Vietnam was enveloped in the chaos of the end of the war. Scott Huesing is a retired Marine major and the author of "Echo in Ramadi: The Firsthand Story of U.S. Marines in Iraq's Deadliest City." In 2006, Scott was the commanding officer of Echo Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines deployed to Ramadi, Iraq. Scott retired with 24 years of service. Dr. Kristi Funk is a breast cancer surgeon who was thrust into the public eye in 2013 when Angelina Jolie wrote an op-ed piece for the New York Times explaining her decision to have a double mastectomy. Megan Henderson is one of the anchors of the early edition of the KTLA 5 Morning News. She was recently invited by UNICEF to visit one of the world's largest refugee camps, Kakuma, in northwestern Turkana County, Kenya. Megan learned that 60-percent of the camp's population of 147,355 people are children under the age of 18. Many of their parents have been killed in civil wars. Clifford V. Johnson is a theoretical physicist and a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on the origins of the universe and the very fabric of nature. Professor Johnson studies and writes about things like string theory, space-time, quantum mechanics, black holes and the Big Bang among other things. He is the recipient of the Maxwell Medal and Prize from the Institute of Physics and the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award.
