On today's episode Brandon welcomes Scott Boswell; builder of electric bass guitars, former Blue Island resident, and current member of the rock band Dead Town Revival. Inspired by a recent Spotify playlist Punk Rock & Disorderly in Blue Island, Brandon asks Scott to shed some light on the early Blue Island punk scene, and asks some listener questions and to top it off we hear a song from Dead Town Revival and Naked Raygun. On today's episode Brandon pays tribute to the "architect" and real king of rock n roll, Little Richard, whose song Tutti Frutti was recorded 65 years ago this month. The song blew the doors off of its predecessors and laid the foundation for all rock songs that would follow. He also opened the doors for gender bending rock stars like David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Prince and more.  You'll hear some hits, some slightly more obscure Little Richard songs, as well as music from some of his influences like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Esquerita, Billy Wright and Roy Brown.  

On today's episode of Flashback Friday it's Brandon's birthday and he leans heavy into the garage and punk tunes on this. Give it a listen and tell Brandon how bad he sounds on the mic.  

This flashback was recorded about 17 years ago at WBAR, which is the student run radio station at Barnard College in New York. Every summer they would open up the station to pretty much anybody who wanted to do a show and of course, I was one of those people. I haven't listened to this recording in about 15 years and I'm sure it's full of mistakes and bad segues but hey, I'm pretty sure the music was pretty decent! We talk about some the bands that were in and around Blue Island back in the early days, some of the joints he hung out at on the north side, and the difficulties of keeping a band together. Andre Williams made music for more than 60 years and played everything from soul, to country, to garage and more. Even though he co-wrote one of the most used songs movies & TV his contribution to the world of music is often over looked. Not only that but his raw brand of soul, humor, and crude talking style of singing is often sighted as an early influence on rap. In other words, this episode is long over due and I apologize.  

On today's episode of the show Brandon makes some calls and to old friends in different parts of the country, people he hasn't spoken to in years, and checks on their well-being. He finds out how they are navigating through the treacherous circumstances we are all currently facing and then asks them to tell an embarrassing story about Brandon. Thanks for listening.  

  For April Fools Day, a day I never understood, we decided to shake things up a bit; do something a little different. It's nutty, it's wild it's . . . well, it's a podcast so try and keep your expectations in check. Anyway, this was recorded in the waning days of "normalcy", before the creeping death swept in and took over our lives, sweeping us into an existential crisis that can only be solved by hording toilet paper!!!
