Impact of Rate Cut on CBS This Morning
02/08/2019 Duração: 02minThe cost of borrowing is coming down. For the first time since the 2008 financial crisis, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates. The central bank lowered the benchmark federal funds rate by a quarter percentage point Wednesday. The decision could make it easier for consumers to borrow money, on everything from credit cards to car loans. I joined CBS This Morning with a look at what the decision means for your wallet. Equifax Settlement on CBS This Morning
26/07/2019 Duração: 03minAfter a huge data breach in 2017, credit monitoring agency Equifax agreed to pay out $700 million, up to $425 million of which would establish a fund to compensate consumers. About 147 million people, nearly half of the country’s population, had their personal and financial information exposed. Equifax admits “no wrongdoing,” and a federal court still needs to sign off on the settlement. I joined CBS This Morning to discuss how you can find out if you’re eligible for a payment. Helping consumers find reliable answers to their credit questions has been the theme of Detweiler’s work for the past 20+ years. Currently Head of Market Education for Nav, she helps individuals and business owners navigate the confusing world of consumer and small business credit. As an expert on credit issues, she has been interviewed for more than 3,000 news interviews including The Today Show, Dateline NBC, The New York Times, USA Today and Reader's Digest. She has also testified before Congress. Nearly two years after credit monitoring company Equifax announced that a “Cybersecurity Incident” had exposed personal information of 147 million Americans, it will pay at least $575 million, and potentially up to $700 million, to end a federal, state, and consumer claims against it. With breaches like Equifax happening on a seemingly regular basis, it’s more important than ever to keep a close eye on your credit

Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World
18/07/2019 Duração: 35minPlenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. If you dabble or delay, you’ll never catch up to the people who got a head start. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers, from professional athletes to Nobel laureates, shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. Today’s guest, David Epstein, uses his latest book, Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, to examine the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields, especially those that are complex and unpredictable, generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel. Generalists often find their path late, and they juggle many interests rather than focusing on one. They’re also more creative, more agile, and able to make connections their more specialized peers can’t

Marriage and Money
11/07/2019 Duração: 28minOur latest guest, Belinda Luscombe, would rather have had her eyes put out than read a book about marriage; they all seemed full of advice that was obvious, useless, or bad. Plus they were boring. But after covering the relationship beat for Time magazine for ten years, she realized there was a surprisingly upbeat and little-known story to tell about the benefits of staying together for the long haul. Hence her recently released book, Marriageology: The Art and Science of Staying Together. Casting a witty, candid, and probing eye on the latest behavioral science, Luscombe has written a fresh and persuasive report on the state of our unions, how they’ve changed from those of our parents’ era, and what those changes mean for the happiness of this most intimate and important of our relationships. In Marriageology Luscombe examines the six major fault lines that can fracture contemporary marriages, also known as the F-words: familiarity, fighting, finances, family, fooling around, and finding help. She presents

Am I Paying Too Much in Fees?
25/06/2019 Duração: 10minThere's really no reason whatsoever nowadays why you should be paying a lot of money in fees for financial advice. And that's a good thing.
