The Victorian government has launched a new body, Multicultural Victoria, tasked with developing safety plans for communities affected by serious or distressing events. Premier Jacinta Allan said the move reflects her vision of creating a “united Victoria.” The new body will be headed by a Coordinator General, supported by two deputies, including one based in regional Victoria, and guided by a five-member advisory council. The announcement follows the state’s multicultural review, led by George Lekakis AO, which gathered input from more than 640 Victorians through 57 consultation sessions.

Charlie Kirk, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, was shot and killed during a public event at Utah Valley University. Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 to promote conservative views among young people, became a prominent spokesman for the hard-right youth movement. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reports that women are living longer and cancer rates have fallen over the past 25 years. However, younger women are showing higher prevalence of depression and other mental health conditions.
