This is an interview that we are very proud of, and we've had to do it using FaceTime rather than face-to-face due to the current situation in the world with COVID-19. However, it was an absolute pleasure to have a chat with former Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney on Thursday morning. We talk about his introduction to football (being told he wouldn't make it) and becoming a European Cup winner in 1968, being part of the first English team to do so and beating a Eusebio-driven Benfica side. That was an incredible dressing room to be part of under the guidance of Sir Matt Busby and Jimmy Murphy. The BBC ran a poll asking readers to vote for the best British football manager. The station has generously sent over an audio file of the brief segment for Stretty News to share. We just wanted to talk about football and Manchester United, but these headlines are not going away and they shouldn’t go ignored.  But, as situations go, this is getting in the way of what matters most. And, that’s the club. United are struggling for results and there is no doubt that Mourinho and Pogba share some of the blame. Manchester United, Republic of Ireland and Celtic legends pay tribute to fallen hero, Liam Miller, at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Amid the pain of loss, there were tears of emotional pride as the Miller family marvelled at world football rallying to honour Liam's life. In the autumn sunshine, I travelled to Co. Manchester United kick-off their Champions League campaign against Swiss side Young Boys this week. Dale is joined by Paul and Jonathan on this week's Strettycast. Philip featured throughout but was rudely interrupted on a number of occasions by super agent Jorge Mendes, who has it in for our podcast since last season... It would be crazy to write off our chances just yet, although it's unlikely United will go all the way in this season's competition but the least the lads want to see is Jose Mourinho's men give it a shot. Whatever Paul Pogba tells you, in 2018 the pinnacle of football is the UEFA Champions League and even though it looks like it will take some time before we see United lift it again, you've got to start a new campaign with an open mind. This time last season, you would have laughed if I said Liverpool would go on to reach the 2018 final in Kiev... thankfully, that's about it. They had nothing to show for it at full-time. Dale is delighted to be joined by football coach and author Gary Curneen, originally from Northern Ireland but currently working in the United States as assistant manager to the Chicago Red Stars. Curneen is a United fan, who studied Mourinho's management at a Real Madrid coaching event in Los Angeles some years ago. He tells us about the influence Mourinho has had on his career and how he's still one of the very business in football. We also take a look at how football has evolved down the years and how Pep Guardiola has helped reshape football after winning domestic titles with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. Manchester United got back to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 win over Burnley, who are having a disaster season thus far and probably face a relegation fight unless things pick up. Dale is joined this week by Raman and Mike to discuss the game and other matters ahead of the international break. Marouane Fellaini put in a solid display against The Clarets, therefore, deserves praise and Luke Shaw continued his great form to win Manchester United Player of the Month for August. Worryingly, there were few players to compete with Shaw for that reward, as Raman points out Paul Pogba has yet to put in a performance better than our other midfielders this season. He's a World Cup winner now. The go-to guy. It's time he realises that and takes responsibility.  There won't be a podcast next week due to the international break.
