When you have an extended amount of time to prepare for one of the worst teams in the NFL, you shouldn't lose that game.So why were the Packers not prepared for their opponent? There is no shortage of reasons this Packers team is going into the bye week with a losing record. Coaching is high on that list. If there's one thing the youngest roster in the league needs to be successful, it's good coaching.Matt LaFleur's start as the Packers head coach ranks among the best in history, but it's fair to wonder how much of that success the former QB is responsible for.We saw the special teams unit be historically bad when LaFleur tried putting one of his buddies at ST coordinator. He has since corrected that by hiring one of the best ST coordinators in the business.Now the OC and DC need the same treatment. LaFleur can't will his friends to be successful. On a short week against a very good Lions defense, this Packers coaching staff looked like they threw the gameplan together like a high school student procrastinating that big paper. The offense didn't even attempt to run the ball until their 3rd series of the game. That's not a winning gameplan with a HOF QB, much less with Love.It didn't get much better from there. The defense was outmatched and once again, had no answer for the run game. Since the loss to the Lions, Joe Barry has admitted that he can't just sit in a nickel and hope for the best when his defense is getting bulldozed... I would tend to agree. In fact, I learned that playing Madden when I was 12.Hopefully the DC quickly learns how to strategize against different opposing offenses, but that's a big hope. While most Packers fans are waiting with a short fuse to have a reason to want to see Joe Barry fired, the defense was the strength of the team on Sunday against the Saints. Credit where credit is due, Joe Barry and the defense overcame adversity of their own playing without key players, and kept the game within reach for the offense. We all knew good complimentary football would be necessary to overcome growing pains this season. The win over the Saints was a microcosm of that.Jordan Love wasn't perfect, but he didn't have to be. He demonstrated the ability to put this team on his back and do what it takes to get the win. There aren't many teams overcoming a 17-0 deficit in the 4th quarter to find a way to win.Enjoy this, Packers fans.
