Alcohol and the Scriptures? No, this isn't the Gospel according to Jack Daniels or Anheuser-Busch. We do need to have a very serious discussion about the consumption of alcohol in the church in this country. The debate may have consequences that are more than you expect. The law matters. Yes, we are saved by grace. By the works of the law no flesh is justified. However, Jesus fulfilled the law and told us that not one jot or tittle would pass away. In logic class, we're told that "The Slippery Slope Argument" is a logical fallacy. Is that really the case? Consider, if we weren't on a slippery slope of ever increasing sexual immorality, would there actually be discussion on pedophilia being acceptable? One lie started it all. A recent post on Facebook asking theologically minded people to define their approach to Scripture and, if possible, their view on the approach taken by a different camp. That question isn't entirely answered here but it did prompt the need to share the foundation of a solid approach to Biblical understanding. Listen to the popular messages and read the popular books. They will tell you that God wants to make you the best you you can be. Others tell you to be your true self. Is that really the point?
